I was born in Nicaragua and lived in Hayward for the past 16 years. I'm married to my husband of 30 years and together we have two grown girls. When not gardening, I enjoy spending time with my family that includes spoiling my 5 year-old grandson. I'm committed to my work and very thankful for the opportunity to serve the Lord.
Andrew Cardiasmenos was born and raised across the bay in San Carlos, CA. Passionate about music and deeply spiritual since his childhood, Andrew sang in several choirs, played the piano and composed music in both sacred and secular settings. He later received a Bachelor’s of Music Composition in Wisconsin and a Masters in Education in Chicago, and began directing church choirs. Andrew led Greek Orthodox choirs for six years and more recently Presbyterian choirs, where he expanded his knowledge of Christian music and Protestant worship. Apart from church choirs, Andrew also teaches middle school French and enjoys spending time with his wife Jessie and his 14-month old baby, Blake.
We look forward to getting to know Andrew and to the gifts he will bring to our music ministry and the congregation. With Andrew on board Choir practice is at 7:00 pm Thursday evenings in the sanctuary.
First of all, let me say that I enjoy being here at New Bridges, becoming part of your family.
I grew up, the youngest of 6, in Canton, Ohio. I migrated to the mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina for my undergraduate study and then seminary.
In 1969 I came to the Bay Area to study at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley. Like many people, I liked living here so much that I decided to stay.
My denominational home is the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), which, by the way, had strong Presbyterian roots in its beginning. I am a founding member of Tapestry Ministries, which meets on Sunday evenings in the Chapel of Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley.
Since coming to the Bay Area, I have been Associate Minister at University Christian Church in Berkeley, Director of the Berkeley Area Interfaith Council, Owner and manager of a Consignment business (for 24 years), Director of the Berkeley Food Pantry, and recently I have become Administrative Coordinator at Epworth United Methodist Church in Berkeley.
My music experience has been mostly in churches as music minister, choir director and/or accompanist.
I am married to my partner, Leon Bacchues, and we have a son, Rodney Bacchues, who is almost 13 and will be in the 7th grade at Bret Harte Middle School in Oakland. We live in East Oakland.
